1. Program as a whole:

VolNepal seemed to me a competent organization with a compassionate purpose and a positive impact on its communities. They were thoroughly accommodating and genuinely concerned with my experience, mitigating the stress and discomfort of culture shock.

2. Home Stay:

After a few meals together, I felt intimate friends with the family operating the homestay. They showed typical Nepali hospitality and generosity, and made me feel at once an honored guest and a friend. The accommodations were comfortable, the food was tasty, and the homey atmosphere provided respite from the urban insanity of Kathmandu.

3. Program Experience:

As a westerner, even an outdoorsy one, I was concerned upon arrival that the living conditions were too rustic. Aided by the company of the children and adults that I now consider my Nepali family, I grew to love my lifestyle, and now remember it fondly. I taught in the local school and lived in an orphanage, a community center where we spent most of our time. We played football and ate and danced, and my life will never be the same.

4. Program Schedule:

I would rise at 6:30 or 7:00 in the morning, walk to the river to the see the sun rise, study with the children until 9:00 when dal bhat was served, go to school until the afternoon, where we taught several classes and played football, and returned to the orphanage to spend the rest of the day working, studying, and playing.

5. Any Other comments or suggestions:

Thank you, Anish and Santosh and everyone at VolNepal, for giving me a life-changing experience. Nepal is truly now my other home.
