I spent 2 weeks in Nepal but that does not stop me from falling in love with the kids there. I am sure the same will happen to you if you are to visit the Murry Foundation in Chitwan, Nepal. The food, the weather, the air and many other factors made my stay very unpleasant but the kids' smiles, hugs and kisses make everything worthwhile. Anyway, if you come prepared, it should not be that bad. This is a list of stuff I will suggest you bringing:
Touch light (there is sure to be blackouts)
Vitamins
Cough medicine!
Toilet paper (one incase you do not get time to buy it in Nepal upon arrival)
Sunblock
And squeeze in some used children's clothes in your luggage. Your small gifts will bring big smiles to their faces.
One of the sweetest thing that happened was when one of girls gave me a photo of her and her brothers because she was worried I will forget about her the moment I came back home. (My camera was broken so I could not take photos) To me, a family photo from an orphan is one of most expensive presents ever. This is how much the kids treasure having volunteers there. This is how much they want you to be there. Anyway, I returned the photo and gave her the promise that I will remember her always. Her name is Januka, hug her for me if you meet her.
Time flies but meaningful time crawls. My stay was 2 weeks but it felt like 2 months because every second counts. Every moment was precious and something that stays in my heart forever.
